LAMP COLLECTION

Design Studies at FH Potsdam
The lighting collection “(Un)sichtbare (Hohl)räume” seeks to transform cavities created by animals into a kind of white cube, an exhibition space that makes these hidden architectures visible. The lamp shown here takes inspiration from a wall-like structure reminiscent of subterranean habitats, thus representing animals that live beneath the surface.
The lamps emerged from a course exploring various plaster casting techniques and introducing the 5D Method by Alexandra Martini, whose purpose is to create something new through experimentation. Therefore, the lamp collection (the “what”) was less a strict goal of the course and more an unplanned outcome. It highlighted the value of experimentation, of embracing uncertainty about the final result, of trusting the process, and of discovering joy in working with different materials.
